Christmas Wishlist

Happy Holidays everybody, today I’ve got a lot of books to share with you.

‘Tis the season for wishlists, so I decided to put together all the books I’ve ever wanted to buy and read into one massive Christmas wishlist. For the sake of keeping this post short, I’ll leave a link to the Goodreads page so you can check out the cover and synopsis of each book. This is going to be a long one, so get comfy!

I actually did ask for this book this year, because I cannot stop thinking about it. I haven’t actually read this book, but my friend Maggie Nelson spoke highly of it.

I’ve mentioned this book a lot this year. It was one of my all-time favorites reads and I’ve desperately been meaning to pick it up again and give it a thorough read through.

I am in the mood for fantasy this month, and this one looks so good. This is an indigenous inspired/own voices fantasy novel and dare I say a stand alone about a father-son relationship. Sign me up.

I’ve been wanting a spooky read that will really send shivers down my spine. Admittedly, I forgot what this one’s about but what I do remember is it’s a haunting tale about a house.

I need to read Robin Hobb, gosh dang it. I’ve been dying to read a Robin Hobb book for what feels like forever, but I didn’t know where to start. The internet says to start with the Farseer Trilogy. So that’s what we’ll do.

As you can probably tell, I haven’t read any of these books, but I have a good feeling that I’m going to love these next ones. Sally Rooney’s books have been all the buzz on booktube, I haven’t heard a bad thing about them. I don’t know what makes me think I’ll love this book but I’m going with my gut on this one.

I’ve wanted to pick up a Sarah Moss book ever since her last release The Tidal Zone was such a hit, but I can’t seem to find the original cover anywhere (I know, priorities). Her latest release, Ghost Wall was published this year by Granta Books in the UK and is set to be released in 2019 here in the states. If it matters, because clearly it does, the US cover is very beautiful.

These next two are written by Latinx authors, so it should come as no surprise to you that I’ve been dying to read them. Everyone Knows You Go Home is part family saga part ghost story. Sure to be a new favorite. I’m surprised I haven’t given this one a go already.

This is effectively a historical fiction novel steeped in magical realism and is set in Colombia during its political upheaval. We follow the relationship between a young girl and her house maid as they cope with the political strife of 1990's Colombia. Ingrid Rojas Contreras’ writing style has been likened to that of Gabriel Garcia Marquez so I’m no doubt excited to read this one.

I’ve been wanting to read this historical fiction fantasy for oh so long. I’ve been meaning to pick it up from the library for ages but haven’t been able to quite yet. I’m excited for this one but I’ve got a feeling I’m not going to completely adore it. I don’t know what to say, something tells me it's over-hyped.

This has been on my TBR for too long. It’s a collection of prose poetry that explores gender roles and dynamics. Needless to say, it’s meant to be very progressive, forward thinking and down right impressive. Again I’ve heard nothing but good things about this one and while I’ve never explored much poetry I think this would be a great place to start.

How have I not read this book? It’s got my name written all over it. This is a romance story of sorts about a woman who falls in love with a painting. As a woman who has fallen for many paintings this is up my ally.

I’ve not had any luck trying to find this book, it’s been on my TBR, again, for so long now. As a matter of fact, I’ve never read any Virginia Woolf, I decided this one was the one for me. I’m not sure if this is one of her more accessible books, but nevertheless I will read it.

Yet another author I have never read. This little blue book is actually a play. Now, I forget what the play is about but I remember this was one of her only published works I was really interested in.

I have passed this book up each and every time I go to the bookstore and I just cannot buy it. I don’t know what it is but I’m skeptical. I don’t remember what this book is about but, the imagery and setting were enough to sell me on it when it was first released.

Last, but certainly not least, John Burnside’s The Dumb House. I remember desperately wanting this book, last Christmas and the Christmas before that. And yet, somehow, I’ve never actually asked for it nor have I ever bought it myself. This is an eerie and grotesque novel not for the faint of heart. Besides that, there's not much I remember about this book.

Well that about wraps up this Christmas wishlist, let me know what books you've been dying to get a hold of.
